Sounds great! Can you take care of our pets tomorrow?
If you have had our service for your animals before, we will try to accommodate a last-minute request if possible. But please phone early for holidays!
When you phone Scout’s Best Pet Sitting for the first time, we will make an appointment for a get-acquainted visit to your home or farm, at no charge. During this visit we will meet you and your animals and will tour the areas that your animals use. We’ll make careful notes of your instructions and other information and will prepare a service agreement and veterinary release for your signature. Also, we’ll get your payment and a copy of your house key at that time. (For subsequent bookings you may leave your check for us to pick up at the first visit.)
Will you administer medications?
Yes, certainly. We will administer oral, topical or injectable meds and change dressings and bandages.
What kind of exercise will you provide for our dog?
The pet sitter will give your dog as much active play as she wants and as time allows, either in your enclosed yard or in the house, as you prefer. Will she want to chase a ball? catch a Frisbee? use your agility equipment? We’re game! Optionally, if she is leash trained and is not dog-aggressive, we can give her a walk in the neighborhood.
How do you care for the house during our vacation absence?
We’ll happily adjust the lighting and window coverings, roll out the trash containers, bring in the mail, newspaper and packages, water some house plants, and perform a general security check – at no extra charge, of course.
How do you deal with the house key?
The simplest and most often used system is for us to keep a copy of your house key in our office safe. It will be tagged with a code, not with your address or name. (A $10 fee is charged for picking up or returning a key if we are not keeping one.)
What about emergency situations?
If any of your animals appears to be in distress or is injured, we will administer first aid up to the level of our training and skill. We will try to contact you first; however, in a perceived emergency we will get care for the animal from your veterinarian or an emergency veterinarian. We ask you to sign a veterinary release form at our first meeting so that Scout’s Best is authorized to obtain such care for your animals.
In case of a household emergency such as a broken water line or non-functioning furnace, our pet sitter will try to contact you first. If necessary, we will call an appropriate service firm on your behalf to deal with the problem.
We have a young puppy. Can you help us with housetraining?
Sure, glad to. In addition to providing more frequent potty breaks than would be usual for a mature dog, we will be happy to reinforce basic living-with-people skills for your puppy. Please see our New Puppy Program for more information.
Do you have references?
Yes, we have. Just ask for them when you call or at our get-acquainted meeting.
